Week 3 Training Log

Week 3 proves to be another success. My body feels great and my spirits are high as well. With no aches or pains I am moving right along. The shoes are doing great and my i-pod shuffle keeps me energized. On Saturday during my long run I veered off the main trail and took a side trail that makes a small loop to do my last mile. As I veered off the trail a man followed me. He had been on the main trail with me for awhile keeping the same pace a couple feet behind me. I kept going as normal and stepped up my pace a notch and would look back here and there to check my surroundings. I think I might have made the man nervous after I looked back a third time because the next thing I knew he had sped up and while passing me said, "I am not trying to stalk you!" I kinda of chuckled and replied, "I am just assessing my surroundings and staying alert of what is around me." It's true, since I do run with my i pod and music pumping I tend to try to stay attentive to what is around me. I have read articles that warn women that run on trails in the early morning and late evening to be cautious and aware of predators that may be leerking. I am not one to be paranoid, but I think I am street smart and try to be prepared in case I was caught in a bad situation. So I thought it was kinda funny when this man was worried that I may have been getting paranoid. Nope, not me! But I was accessing my surroundings and keeping an eye out of his proximity to me since I was alone on this trail. A smart, safe runner is all I was trying to be.

Mon: 3 miles

I'm glad you stay attentive out there. I could never run on trails, runners are always the ones who find the dead bodies. No runner on some trail ever finds a pot of gold or something, but there's always some late-breaking story that a jogger found a body in the park. Next time someone's missing, they should just get all the joggers together and tell them to start running. That person wouldn't be lost for long not with our modern day super-sleuths in Nikes on the case. Anyways, I'm rambling. Glad to hear your running week went well.

I'm glad that you are tough, I would have been the paranoid one, I really hope that I don't pass this on to my kids like my mom passed on to me. Good job with your running. I want to get new shoes sometime that I would like your advice for some good ones.

Sounds like you are doing really well...my running workouts have dwindled off a bit. I need to be better at just making myself do it. I'm glad that guy was not stocking you. That can be really scary!

Just to end this right now: "stock" are animals and those cubes you put in soup. "Stalk" is the creepy action we get restraining orders against.

While reading your training logs, I was actually thinking how brave you are to run in a park by yourself. Saying " I am not stalking you" doesn't mean he is not. Do you have a pepper spray? (Not trying to scare you here. I AM ALWAYS paranoid.)

I think it is okay to be a little paranoid when running around Lake Phalen. It's not a bad area but it's a good idea to be smart & safe! I'm glad things went well with your training last week. Good luck this week!

Glad to know you are aware of your surroundings. You can never be too careful when you are by yourself. You could probably kick the crap out of anyone who ever tried anything anyway!! I don't know about a dog though!!!!! Be careful for those dogs out there too.
