The Job Hunt

As we moved to Minnesota one of the most stressful things for me was finding a job. When we moved out here I did not have anything lined up. After being a dental hygienist for three years now and having a great reference from the office I worked at in Utah I thought I would not have any problems finding a job. Little did I know that MN has 11 dental hygiene schools. This is a lot of Dental Hygienists being pumped out yearly. The dental market is very competitive out here with so many qualified applicants. Not only that there just is not a lot of turnover in the market as well making it tough to find open positions. Little did I know about this when I was here only a week and was offered a job. I turned this position down due to the commute and early hours that were going to be demanded of me. I then questioned my decision after all the talk of "you'll never find a full time position with those kinds of benefits" from several other hygienist. With frustration I looked forward and knew deep down that there was going to be a better position if I just was patient. The question was....how patient?
Well my answer did not have to wait too long. Two weeks later I found myself interviewing for 3 different full time positions and 1 part time position. I all the sudden went from drought and frustration to the land of plentiful. After careful thinking and mulling things over I made a decision today on a position that was offered to me. I will be working for Park Dental in St. Louis Park. I am excited to have a regular schedule and one I can count on. As much as I love the variety temping has to offer it can get old. Yeah for me! On to a regular work week with hours that are consistent. I look forward to meeting all my Pt.'s smiles!!

Congrats on the job kristin! I hate looking for jobs, so stressful. I'll stick to my full time stay at home mom job..it does have long hours though. :)

Wonderful, we are so glad that you waited and were careful. Is this the one where the hours are different each day and that you have every other Friday off? I can't remember what the details were. I am so happy for you!

We are so happy that you got a job, no more crappy temping! Ryan wants you to ask Thomas how he liked watching ND play...probably about as much as Ryan liked watching the Fiesta Bowl last year! :) We miss standing by you guys in the MUSS....and Go Utes!
